Filipino Exodus

For countless years, the Philippines have been the major provider of skilled workforce abroad. There are quite a few Presidents of this country who had promised to strengthen the economic and national stability and failed miserably, much to the despair of Filipinos all over the world.

Up to now, Filipinos are still suffering from economic crisis. Almost every year many Filipinos leave the country to find greener pasture abroad. In the hope of a better life, they sacrifice by separating from their loved ones that are left here in the Philippines.

There are 11 million Filipinos abroad worldwide, which is equivalent to about 11% of the total Philippine populace. The Philippines is training and moulding young workers for employment abroad. While a few numbers of skilled workers are being hired abroad, a small number of trained workers are left in our public hospitals and other public sectors. The lucky ones who are able to go abroad reap the fruits of their labour and achieve the Filipino dream of giving their families a better life.

As a consequence of this scenario, students are now aiming towards future service out of the country rather than share their expertise here in the Philippines. Most of them are searching for jobs overseas even before they graduate.

The country’s health care service is the most affected aspect of these circumstances. Qualified doctors and nurses are now migrating to foreign countries. In return, the ones who are left are not competent enough to treat the patients in clinics and hospitals, thus lowering and degrading the quality of health in our country.

When would our country be free from the burden of poverty and corruption? I believe that the answer lies with each one of us. Its our task to share the responsibility of promoting the good of our country.

  1. Very nice share of your thoughts with regards to Philippine situation and some of your countrymen migrating abroad. Very nationalistic.
